Period and reason for leavingI worked for Sharon doing au paring from 2006  to 2009. I left due to the fact that the morning job I was doing for Sharon struggled through the recession and I ended up getting retrenched.
Number of children,age and gender of the children when you started?She had 2 boys, one boy of 5 years old and the other boy was 6 years old.
What were your duties?

In the morning I worked in the office doing admin; in the afternoons I would fetch her children from school, take them home, feed them, help them with homework, played with them, entertained the to either the mother came home/I would take them to the office to their mother.

Your comments on the experience with this positionMy experience was amazing, I loved it and it was nice to be in the fresh air and spend time with the children.

Period and reason for leavingI worked for Mary for only a month, from August to September 2008. The reason for me leaving was because of financial issues I was having at the time.
Number of children,age and gender of the children when you started?Mary had 2 girls, one girl who was 5 years old and the other girl was 7 years old.
What were your duties?My duties were to fetch the girls from school, taking them to extra murals, help with homework, read to them, play activities and go on outings together

Please tell us a bit more about the courses you are currently busy with, if any and also a bit more about where you see yourself in 5 years? I am currently working for Perkal Training as an admin and sales consultant during the day, so I am only looking for au pairing and babysitting from 6pm onwards. In 5 years I would love to see myself being a mom with children, and to have a stable job/foundation
How did you get involved in child care and why are you interested au pairing/ babysitting?I got involved with child care through Sharon at Krige Dos Santos Architects when I assisted her in the afternoons with her children.
What is the age of the youngest child you have cared for?The youngest I have cared for is a my sisters baby.
What activities are you involved in?Activities I am involved is is walking, skipping,music, dancing, and singing.
What do you do in your spare time? Do you have any hobbies or other jobs?In my spare time I like to watch TV, and to go camping with friends.
What are your interests?My interests are music and dancing.
What do you like most about childcare and being part of a childs life?What I like most about child care is being able to teach them values and to be able to be there for them. Also to watch them connect with you, that is a reward in itself.
What kinds of activities do you enjoy doing with children?Activities I enjoy doing with children is reading to them, riding bikes, playing ball, swimming and going to the park with them.
Explain what you would do in case of an emergency?In case of an emergency I would implement first aid up until the stage I have learnt and I would call the necessary people that can help me in the situation.
What is the most difficult situation you have encountered while caring for a child? How did you handle it?I haven't encountered any difficult situations.
What is your approach to discipline?When it comes to discipline I am stern but fair.

How would you handle:

A two year old having a tantrum?If a 2 year old was throwing a tantrum, I would try talk to them about it to find out what is wrong and I would try and calm them down. If that doesn't work I would ignore them and then talk to them afterward about it. If worst comes to worse then I would compromise/bribe them.
A 5 year old drawing on a wall?If a 5 year old was drawing on a wall I would make them to clean it up, and then talk to them about what it not being appropriate behaviour and that we should rather draw on paper than the wall. 
An 8 year old refusing to do homework?If an 8 year old was refusing to do their homework, I would try and find out the reason is for them not wanting to do their homework, and encourage them to do it by making it fun for them. 
Which age groups are you comfortable working with?I am most comfortable caring for children from the ages of 2 to 9 years old.
Do you still work for any of your previous clients? Which ones?No I don't work for any previous clients.

My parents were married for 35 years and now they are divorced. My father lives in Portugal, and my mom is still in South Africa. I have 3 sisters who are 26, 29 and 32 years old. My sister who is 26 years old lives in Portugal. I spend a lot of time with my sister who is 29 years old as we are very close. In general we are a very close family. I see my mom as often as possible and visit my dad once in a while.
