Period and reason for leavingI worked for her twice. The first time was from 2016 - end 2017.  The second time was April - June 2018. Her older child went to creche in 2017 so I was no longer needed. I assisted with her second child when she was born but she no longer needs full time help. I still babysit both children.

What were your duties?The first time I was responsible for feeding, cleaning and bathing the child. I also put her to bed. I played games with her and as she grew up the games changed to more learning games. I also read to her.  The second time I was responsible for the new born baby. This involved feeding, bathing, changing nappies etc. I still babysit for both children on the weekends and evenings. I look after both the older girl (5) and baby (4 months).

How many years of childcare experience do you currently have? When did you start caring for children professionally?I have about 2 and a half years experience. The first child I looked after professionally was in 2010.
How did you get involved in child care and why are you interested au pairing/ babysitting?I have always loved working with children. I always get along very well with kids. My last job was an office job, but I never enjoyed it as must as taking care of children.
What is the age of the youngest child you have cared for?A new born.
What do you do in your spare time? Do you have any hobbies or other jobs?I love working out and going to gym in my spare time.
What kinds of activities do you enjoy doing with children?I enjoy playing educational games, homework or swimming.
Explain what you would do in case of an emergency?I would call an emergency number and then the parent if there is nothing I can do to help.
What is the most difficult situation you have encountered while caring for a child? How did you handle it?A girl 2year old in my care. She kept on crying and did not want to eat anything. I tried everything I could think of at the time but nothing helped. I then called her mother, she came home and we went to see the family doctor. We were told the baby girl had gastro. After giving her a little of the medication she was doing well. We were all relieved
What is your approach to discipline?5-10 min time out.

How would you handle:

A two year old having a tantrum?I would sit him/her down and let her/him know that if they are going to continue, I will have to place him/her in time out. I will continue talking until i have their full co-operation.
A 5 year old drawing on a wall?I will let them fully understand that what they did was very wrong and that there mother and father had worked very hard for them.I would give them a time out and thereafter we will clean the wall.
An 8 year old refusing to do homework?I will sit down with the child and I will let them know we will be sitting here until he/she has completed there homework. There will be no TV or any electronic devices until it is done.

Please tell us a bit more about your family?We are very close and always make time for each other. We like trying new things whether they are  food, drinks or cake. I have a younger sister who is 16.
  How do you handle a crying baby?I would check if the baby is hungry or wet. I would also check the baby for any bruises or rashes. I would hold the baby and try and comfort him/her.
 What do you see as your primary responsibility to a child aged 0 to 2 years old?It's a round the clock job. You need to ensure the baby is feed, washed, clean & able to sleep.
  What activities would you engage in with a child aged 0 to 2 years old?I would talk to the baby, use building blocks and shape sorters
 Are you comfortable with changing diapers, have you changed diapers before? Yes
 Have you ever had to sterilise bottles before? Describe how to do this. Yes. I have used microwave sterilisers.
  Can you prepare meals for infants? Give an example of how you would prepare such a meal Yes. I cook pumpkin/ butternut and mash it and add a bit of sugar. I would wait for it to cool down before feeding the baby

 How would you handle a child aged 2 to 3 years old having a temper tantrum in a public place?I  would speak to him/her to  find out what is the problem. The child may be tired or hungry. I would also explain that it 's not right to have in tantrum in public.
  How do you feel potty training should be approached?I have never done this.
 What role should outdoor play and interaction with other toddlers have in a child´s day?Fresh air and outdoors is good for children. They also need to learn how to interact with other children. This builds character.
 What types of educational activities would you engage a child ages 2 to 3 years old?I would do colouring in and puzzles.
 What methods of limit setting or discipline do you find effective for children aged 3 to 5 years old?Most of them time I would speak to children so that they can understand the situation. I would also use time out.
 What television shows do you feel are appropriate for children aged 3 to 5 years old? Nickelodeon and Barney
