How did you get involved in child care and why are you interested au pairing/ babysitting?I started studying teaching and that is what sparked my interest in kids. I found it very interesting, especially the psychological aspect that I learn through my studies. My first job was with Charlotte's Playground and I was a daycare teacher.
What is the age of the youngest child you have cared for?3 months
What do you do in your spare time? Do you have any hobbies or other jobs?Hiking, walks in the park and reading.
What kinds of activities do you enjoy doing with children?Teaching through play, art to spark creativity, story telling.
Explain what you would do in case of an emergency?Use my knowledge gained through experience and first aid course. Inform immediate emergency persons such as ambulance / doctor and parents.
What is the most difficult situation you have encountered while caring for a child? How did you handle it?A boy refused to partake in any activity . He ran away from his coach. I realised this when I did a role call and realised he was missing. He was new at our homework centre. The coach took him to another aftercare centre instead of our homework centre. I had to find him. I had to first ensure the other kids were safe by taking them back to the centre and then searching for the boy. I informed the parents and the school and went looking for the child and found the child. I had to explain to the coach the correct procedure.
What is your approach to discipline?Being firm and encouraging good behavior. 

How would you handle:

A two year old having a tantrum?Talk to the child, try and distract the child from the reason of the tantrum. Allow them to vent. Try to figure out why they are feeling sad. Talk to them.
A 5 year old drawing on a wall?Get them to help me wash the wall. Explain why it is not good behavior and clean the wall.
An 8 year old refusing to do homework?Try and encourage the child to do the homework. I would not do it for them. Explain why it needs to be done and consequences for not doing it.

How would you handle a child aged 2 to 3 years old having a temper tantrum in a public place?I am not phased with an audience. I would try to distract the kid. If the child is tired I would leave as the child might need rest.
How do you feel potty training should be approached?I follow the parents lead. Ensure the child goes to the toilet after wake up time, have regular visits after lots of drinks and food.
What role should outdoor play and interaction with other toddlers have in a child´s day? Social skills learnt when with other kids are important. Making friends are healthy.
What types of educational activities would you engage a child ages 2 to 3 years old? Story telling and reading. Counting by clapping hands, count while throwing the ball.
What methods of limit setting or discipline do you find effective for children aged 3 to 5 years old?Every child needs rules that are guided. Be consistent. Be firm if boundaries are set. Possibly time out to reflect and explaining the reason. 
What television shows do you feel are appropriate for children aged 3 to 5 years old?I don't like watching tv with kids but if that is the case then possibly stories that are morally sound.

What is your teaching style?I like to ask questions in order to explore the correct answer and not just giving information. Visual if the child is visual learned.

I had an autistic and ADHD child - I encouraged behaviour that was more acceptable but yet being sensitive to his situation. He was awkward socially. I tried to involve him with other kids. I would let him help other kids as he was intelligent. I gave him extra tasks. We did lots of sharing and group activities. I would give him some responsibilities such as let him pack my files alphabetically.
How can you help a child become an independent learner? Help them to be self sufficient. Give them responsibilities. 
How long have you been tutoring?  Feb - Oct 2017. 
What subjects and grades can you teach?I have experience with Grade R -4. I can tutor any Study subject, except Maths and Accounting.
How will you get a sense of a child’s learning or attention needs?By testing him through work. Maybe worksheets or tests or revision that can be done to see how he does with those sessions. Maybe a quiz.
What specific strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a child?First get to know the child and win over trust.
 How do you measure progress? Through tests and report marks.
How will you communicate with parents of children you are teaching or tutoring, and how often?   
Via telephone and face to face. I will check with the parents how they prefer to communicate. Meetings and daily updates if preferred by the parents.
