How many years of childcare experience do you currently have?Since 2015.
How did you get involved in child care and why are you interested au pairing/ babysitting?I have a very big family and have grown up with young children. Being a close family inspired me to work with children. I want to au pair because I am studying teaching part time and would like to stay in the line of childcare.
What is the age of the youngest child you have cared for?An 8 month old baby, babysitting in the evenings.
What do you do in your spare time? Do you have any hobbies or other jobs?In my spare time I go to the gym, read, and draw. I enjoy spending time with my family.
What do you like most about childcare and being part of a childs life?I enjoy doing creative activities with children like painting and drawing. I also enjoy spending time with children because of their perspective on the world. It is always interesting to hear what they have to say and how they think things work in the world.
What kinds of activities do you enjoy doing with children?I absolutely love going on picnics with the kids and feeding the ducks. I enjoy doing arts and crafts with the kids.
Explain what you would do in case of an emergency? It depends on the kind of emergency. It is always important to stay calm in any emergency. If it is a medical emergency I would check if the child is okay, breathing, check for concussion. I will phone the ambulance if it is an extreme case and inform the parents asap.
What is the most difficult situation you have encountered while caring for a child? How did you handle it?The most difficult situation I encountered was when the little girl bumped her head and immediately had a huge bump. I applied ice to the bump, asked the girl if she was experiencing any nausea or dizziness. She did not have any concerning symptoms. I did call the parents to inform them of the situation after I made sure the little girl was calm and okay. I explained the situation to the parents and asked if they were comfortable with her just applying ice or if they wanted her to go to the doctor.
What is your approach to discipline?I believe if a child is well mannered then discipline should not be a problem. Usually a time out always works with an apology after the child has taken time to think about what he/she has done wrong.I will always ask the family how their discipline routine works and how they want me to discipline their children.
What do you see as your primary responsibility to a child aged 0 to 2 years old?To make sure the child is fed, keep up with their sleeping routine, stimulate them and care for them.
Have you ever bathed an infant before? No.
Can you prepare meals for infants?Yes.
Are you capable of looking after twins?Yes.
How do you feel potty training should be approached?I will motivate the child with a reward, and work out a toilet routine for the child.
What role should outdoor play and interaction with other toddlers have in a child´s day?I think its important that children are stimulated with outdoor play through developing their gross motor skills and their cognitive skills. The children also learn how to share and they learn so much from each other.
What types of educational activities would you engage a child ages 2 to 3 years old?Build puzzles, building blocks, learning shapes, singing and dancing etc.
How much television do you feel is appropriate for children aged 3 to 5 years old?30 minutes per day.
Are you willing to supervise friends of the children who are invited to their home while you are in chargeYes.
Are you happy with staying with the children at their extra-curricular activities?Yes.
What age appropriate activities would you do with the children aged 5 to 12 years old?I will play sports with them, play ball outside, we can swim, we can do any creative play like play, threading beads, color in and drawing.
Are you happy to prepack lunches for children?Yes.
Would you consider yourself to be organized and punctual?Yes, I believe in routine and live by a certain routine, I like to plan things and I am always on time.

How would you handle:

A two year old having a tantrum? With young children you need a lot of patience. A tantrum should never be rewarded. I will wait for the tantrum to pass or distract the child with a different activity.
A 5 year old drawing on a wall?First I would explain to the child why he can not draw on the wall. The child and I would clean the wall together. Teaching the child that there are consequences to his/her actions and to take responsibility for it.
An 8 year old refusing to do homework?Usually if a child refuses to do homework then I would ask if I can help with the homework. Most times the child is uncertain of the task given and does not know how to approach it. It is also an encouragement to offer to help. I will let the child take a break if it is needed.
Which age groups are you comfortable working with?Age 3 to 15 years old.
Do you still work for any of your previous clients? Which ones? No.
Do you have any children of your own? If so, how old are they? No.
