Would you consider yourself to be organized and punctual?Definitely. Some times too much.
What age appropriate activities would you do with the children aged 5 to 12 years old?I think going to restaurants should only happen occasionally as a reward for good behaviour. I will have lots of educational outings with them, take them to the play area in the park etc. They love to do things in nature, like strawberry picking, I will swim with them and take them to the beach. I am a very active person and would love to participate in various physical activities with them.
Are you comfortable reviewing and assisting with my children’s homework?Yes I am use to teaching and explaining things to children, so I will be comfortable helping them with home work.
What television shows do you feel are appropriate for children aged 3 to 5 years old?
How much television do you feel is appropriate for children aged 3 to 5 years old?
I think children should watch educational programs for about an hour per day.
What methods of limit setting or discipline do you find effective for children aged 3 to 5 years old?The reward system works for them. Boundries should be set firmer as they grow and understand more.
What types of educational activities would you engage a child ages 2 to 3 years old?

I think these days exposure to technology is very important and a child should learn to help himself on the computer. There are a lot of educational games for children to play on the computer. They should be teach the basics in all areas of life, for instance learn to prepare basic food in the kitchen, even if just to cut food with a plastic knife etc.

They are still very tactile and learn by touching varying textures. They can start colouring and building basic puzzles.

What role should outdoor play and interaction with other toddlers have in a child´s day?I think outdoor play is very important for the child's overall development and to learn more about life. Toddler's should have some interaction as part of their social integration into society.
How do you feel potty training should be approached? The child should be ask regularly if he wants to go to the toilet. The toilet should be introduce and its purpose explained. I will be attentive to certain clues that shows that the child needs to go to the bathroom.A lot of patience is needed and if the child has an accident I will explain everything again.
How would you handle a child aged 2 to 3 years old having a temper tantrum in a public place?I will try to identify what is upsetting the child and take him to a quiet, safe place.
Are you capable of looking after twins?Yes I think I am. In our house there are several children of the same age and I have a lot of experience caring for them.
What activities would you engage in with a child aged 0 to 2 years old?I will stimulate them by letting them touch age appropriate toys with different textures. At two i would introduce basic art materials and let them explore different environments, especially out doors like parks.
What do you see as your primary responsibility to a child aged 0 to 2 years old?To see to the child's safety and comfort. And then the general care.
How many years of childcare experience do you currently have?5 years
How did you get involved in child care and why are you interested au pairing/ babysitting?Ever since I was in my first year at university I loved taking care of my 4 nephews & niece and others children. This is why I got involved during my holidays and peak periods at Three bears Educare (Veronica Sickle). I have always been a motherly figure and Care-giver. I even went away with au pair America in 2009. It is a priceless reward to be a helping hand and contributing positively to a child´s life.
What is the age of the youngest child you have cared for?

New born to High School

How do you handle a crying baby?I will find out first if one of the infant's basic needs need to be met. I will then give the baby an over-all check to see if there is maybe symptoms of illness. I will sooth the baby by touching it and if the crying is urgent, pick the baby up and cuddle the baby and rock the baby in my arms.
What do you do in your spare time? Do you have any hobbies or other jobs?I love going to the gym. I use to Dance since I was 4 years old (Modern Dancing, Ballet, Contemporary, African and Hip Hop Dancing). I stopped in November 2012 due to career prospects and studies.I love figure skating. I  skated professionally for a club.
What do you like most about childcare and being part of a childs life?I love their inquiring minds and total innocence. They are so pure and versatile, with complete openness to learn and discover. The rewards are endless and priceless.
What kinds of activities do you enjoy doing with children?Outdoor- and indoor- activities. Creativity is key and outings are endless. (Museums, Aquariums, Art Galleries, theme parks, picnics and beaching) Indoors would be an amalgamation of educational and household or domestic activities (basic baking and cooking under supervision, colouring, puzzles, board games and really amazing educational interactive computer programs that you find on the Web. Technology is key in our knowledge and information driven economy and society, yet to maintain a balance between indoor activities, outdoor activities and technology is imperative.
Explain what you would do in case of an emergency?First attend to the child as far as possible, making him or her as comfortable as possible. Depending on the situation I will call emergency services immediately, then parents. If not, I will call and notify parents immediately.
What is the most difficult situation you have encountered while caring for a child? How did you handle it?My nephew was with his pregnant Mom. In a blink of an eye, he slipped away very quickly to play with a ball close to a low window. I just arrived home from varsity, finding her in a complete panic. Her rolled right into the window, which resulted in a huge gash to the forehead. I immediately picked him up, dusted off any splints or glass there was around the wound, with a clean white cloth I wiped away the blood (avoiding it from running into the eye) and applied pressure to the wound with another clean white cloth. Due to his mom being pregnant at the time and completely faint due to the blood and nobody was home, I had to get into my car, with him on my lap and my seat belt across both of us. When I got to the emergency I called his Mom to update her on everything and the procedure he needed.
What is your approach to discipline?Discussion is key, knowing both sides of the story. Indicating right and wrong and reaching a mutual understanding or agreement. The feedback, reaction or response of the child is important. This will be in-line with the child's parents beliefs, rules and regulations completely. I will have more rigorous boundaries as the children get older because they understand more and can take more responsibility for themselves.

How would you handle:

A two year old having a tantrum?Calm the child down and decipher what the problem is. Compensate for the situation. If the child refused to calm down, I would need to wait until the child comes out of the tantrum on his or her own and then approach the situation calmly and fairly.
A 5 year old drawing on a wall?I would discuss the situation with the child (right and wrong) I will then get a soap and cloth and we can clean it off together. Afterward I would give him or her a sheet of paper or colouring books to write, draw or colour in.
An 8 year old refusing to do homework?I would reiterate that inevitably the work needs to get done. Now or Later. If not, he or she might get into trouble with his or her parent ( because I would notify them) and teacher (for homework not done) So, I would suggest her or him in completing it sooner, with my help and supervision, rather than later or never.Sometimes they might not understand the work and need me to explain it in such a fashion that they understand it.
Which age groups are you comfortable working with?Any age group. 2-5 years is my preference.
Do you still work for any of your previous clients? Which ones?Yes I still help out at the Day care fascility.
Do you have any children of your own? If so, how old are they?No
Please tell us a bit more about how you would describe yourself?I am a very free spirited individual, yet grounded and professional in everything I do. I am a slight perfectionist, as highlighted by others, but completely flexible and versatile. I love colour and creation and most of all helping out. I love children (cliché to say in this instance), but they walk round like a blank colouring sheet waiting to be filled with happiness , love, joy and knowledge. And seeing this grow is a priceless reward.
