How many years of childcare experience do you currently have?About 20  and more years experience
How did you get involved in child care and why are you interested au pairing/ babysitting?I had to look after my sister since she was born when I was only 10 years old. My mother could not cope. The people around me saw that and trusted me to look after their kids. I am also a very reliable person.
What is the age of the youngest child you have cared for?3 years old.
  
What do you do in your spare time? Do you have any hobbies or other jobs?I enjoy trail running, hiking, reading, watching movies and spending time with family and friends.
What do you like most about childcare and being part of a child's life?

Giving them the attention they need and want. Also to make sure that they are happy and safe at all times. Teaching them new things.

I love seeing them grow up and seeing how they develop their personality/ character. Also that they are so dependent on adults and trust you.

What kinds of activities do you enjoy doing with children?

Taking them for walks to the park. Playing games with them (mostly educational games) Teaching them new things such as songs, drawing, reading. All depends on the age of the child.

Explain what you would do in case of an emergency?Depending on what the emergency is.....I´d phone the parents. I would call the hospitals or emergency line if needed.
What is the most difficult situation you have encountered while caring for a child? How did you handle it?The child got throat infection and was crying all night and had a fever. I made a doctors appointment and he helped me out by prescribing medicine and tips on what and what not to do.
What is your approach to discipline?Take away there favorite toy or let them know that you not going to take them out, like to the part or walk. Or try and distract them from what they want.

How would you handle:

A two year old having a tantrum?Purposely not taking note of them if it continues to tell them you not going to take them out again in they behave like that again. Or try to get their attention on something else.....that usually works.
A 5 year old drawing on a wall?Ask them why they doing that and show them that drawing should be done on paper and not walls. Then get some paper and show them.
An 8 year old refusing to do homework?Tell them lets do homework, but in a fun way. Or if we do your homework now we can do your favorite thing.

I don't like it when people lie and people that are rude. I like to make sure everyone is ok and happy. I go out of my way to please people and assist where I can. I love family as they are the most important thing to me. And I love animals.

There are five of us. My older sister who is mentally challenged, she is 50 and stays at a group home and comes home to me once a month at the end of the month. My other sister who is 31 stays with me, we share a place. She is the one I looked after since she was new born. My older brother who is 42 stays in Pretoria and my younger brother 38 stays in Table View.

My father who is 67 stays in Table View. We lost our mother last year August. We are a very close family.
