Questions

How many years of childcare experience do you currently have?4 - 5 years: Started when I was in Gr 8, mainly involved in charity childcare.
How did you get involved in child care and why are you interested au pairing/ babysitting?I got involved in childcare through my charity work - as a former Miss Junior South Africa in 2009 I spent allot of time working with orphanages in the Pretoria Area looking after / helping the house mothers with babies and toddlers as well as Thando Creche with Pre School children and Thuto Ku Lesedi with children from birth to Pre School. Children are the future, so thats why we have to care of them.
What is the age of the youngest child you have cared for?New born - feeding, dressing, and nappy changing
What do you do in your spare time? Do you have any hobbies or other jobs?I enjoy Scrap booking, but most of the time i do charity work at my chosen charities, chaperone younger children for Pageants SA or MC, otherwise I just focus on studies.
What do you like most about childcare and being part of a childs life?Being able to use my skills to develop young minds through play with educational games. Mainly the impact you can have a child's life and watching the grow.
What kinds of activities do you enjoy doing with children?Playing board games, doing puzzles, playing eduational activities or playing outside. Teaching how to make beadwork or scrapbooking and I really enjoy helping older children with their projects because of my creativity and to teach maths, which i am excellent in. Depending on age.
Explain what you would do in case of an emergency? If it was a medical emergency, I would deal with the emergency first, contact the parents and then contact someone for assistance, such as an ambulance.
What is the most difficult situation you have encountered while caring for a child? How did you handle it?Many of the situations i have dealt with have been with insecure children who cry alot, wanting their mothers or not wanting to be left. I have been very successful in being able to reassure children and distract their attention with fun activities that they like.
What is your approach to discipline?I believe in positive reinforcement and reward when a child has done well or been good, and I strongly believe in talking about what is wrong, rather than shouting. But I am willing to incorporate the parent's approach to discipline.

How would you handle:

A 5 year old drawing on a wall?I would get out a piece of paper to encourage the child to draw on the paper, and also explain why it is not good to draw on a wall, and encourage that we clean the wall together, and then draw on paper, show them how they can keep their drawing safe and show it off if they put it on paper.
An 8 year old refusing to do homework?Recognition and reward and explain the importance of doing homework, sit with them and establish the problem.
Which age groups are you comfortable working with?1 - 12 years
Do you still work for any of your previous clients? Which ones?No
Do you have any children of your own? If so, how old are they?No
Please tell us a bit more about how you would describe yourself?I am a confident, professional, sociable, warm, friendly, and hard-working young lady who can always be relied upon. I am very responsible and organized, and very tidy. I am very compassionate and value people in their diversity. I enjoy spending time with family and friends, love travelling and love helping, and using my title as a voice to help those that are not being heard. My main goal is to pursue a law career specializing in family law.
