Questions

How many years of childcare experience do you currently have?5 years
How did you get involved in child care and why are you interested au pairing/ babysitting?I´ve always loved children. I started working as an aupair once I started studying as the hours allowed me to be quite flexible. I really enjoy spending my afternoons with the children and watching them learn and grow. Once I am finished my studies I hope to work in a field that addresses issues that affect children and their development.
What is the age of the youngest child you have cared for?6 years
What do you do in your spare time? Do you have any hobbies or other jobs?Gym, yoga, reading (historical novels mainly for my degree and reading to children), spending time with friends
What do you like most about childcare and being part of a childs life?Children always have something funny to do or say, they have their way of making your day. They´re honest and lovable. I enjoy making them happy, teaching them, watching them grow, guiding them and helping them become the person they want to be.
What kinds of activities do you enjoy doing with children?I enjoy playing outside, walking the dog, going to the park or zoo. Movies as a treat. Reading. Museums or Gold Reef city, Pantomimes in December holidays.
Explain what you would do in case of an emergency?Im not easily shocked so if it is something I can handle, I can see to it. But something serious like a deep cut or dog bite, I´d call Mom and let her know she´d have to meet us at the emergency room.
What is the most difficult situation you have encountered while caring for a child? How did you handle it?The little boy I took care of the longest was being bullied at school. He was afraid to tell anyone. He eventually told me but made me promise not to tell. He was miserable, I was heartbroken. We both spoke to his Mom, who spoke to his teacher, the bully was sent to the school therapist.
What is your approach to discipline?I have not really had to deal with problem children. My approach to discipline thus far has been, taking away things children may be fond of if they´re being disobedient- such as cell phones or iPods and returning them at the end of the day.

How would you handle:

A two year old having a tantrum?I think the way to handle this is not to pay too much attention
A 5 year old drawing on a wall?Give them a piece of paper and I would explain that it would have to be cleaned up.
An 8 year old refusing to do homework?tell him if he doesn´t complete the work by 6pm then, whatever he does at theat time won't be allowed.
Which age groups are you comfortable working with?6-15 (would be ok with younger children if I did not have to spend the whole day with them)
Do you still work for any of your previous clients? Which ones?no
Do you have any children of your own? If so, how old are they?no
Please tell us a bit more about how you would describe yourself?I am extremely patient, hard working, headstrong, punctual. I am friendly, always smiling, helpful. I always finish what I start.
Can you cook? (give an example of a breakfast, lunch, dinner and snack)Yes
BreakfastScrambled eggs with cottage cheese and rye
LunchTuna salad
DinnerGrilled fish, veggies
SnackFruit and yoghurt
Is there any type of food you feel uncomfortable cooking?Dinner for the entire family is not something I´m prepared to do.
Please tell us a bit more about your family?.I come from a stable happy family, Mom and Dad have been very supportive throughout my studies, I have one brother 23 years old.
