Questions

How many years of childcare experience do you currently have?I have experience since 2004.
How did you get involved in child care and why are you interested au pairing/ babysitting?I started by helping out with my mother's  reading lab, and continued from there on. Modelling was a passion and I enjoyed spending time with the younger girls and teaching them. I love children and I am thinking of specializing in an Occupational therapy field involving children. I do need the extra income as well.
What do you do in your spare time? Do you have any hobbies or other jobs?I love reading and jogging or spending time with my house mates. I have no other form of income at the moment.
What do you like most about childcare and being part of a child's life?I love watching them experience things while growing up.
What kinds of activities do you enjoy doing with children?Because I will only be working during the evenings it would depend on the child and parents as the child will then be finished with his homework etc. I like colouring, painting, reading stories, playing games like hide-and-seek, building blocks, watching children programs with them.
Explain what you would do in case of an emergency?Depending on the situation, I will apply my first aid knowledge, then call the emergency number and then the parents.
What is the most difficult situation you have encountered while caring for a child? How did you handle it?The worst was a tantrum, I handled her with a patient tone, picked her up from the floor and calmed her down.
What is your approach to discipline? It depends on the parents, but I will never hit a child or discipline them by sending them to sit in a corner etc. I will try my best to explain to the child that what they have done is wrong, but ultimately it is the parents job.

How would you handle:

A two year old having a tantrum?I will never shout at a child.I will try to calm them down, and ask them what's wrong. I will try to find something else for them to do as a distraction, for example colouring or watching a TV program. I believe it is the parents job to teach them right and wrong.
A 5 year old drawing on a wall?I will explain to the child that it is not appropriate to draw on walls, I will give the child a book or paper to draw on and join them to show them the proper way.
An 8 year old refusing to do homework?I will explain that its important to do homework in order to become smarter, I will tell the child that we can play a fun game after they have completed the work in order to motivate them.
Which age groups are you comfortable working with?I am comfortable working with children from 6 years old up to 15 years old.
Do you still work for any of your previous clients? Which ones?No
Do you have any children of your own? If so, how old are they?No
Please tell us a bit more about how you would describe yourself?I am an outgoing, fun to be around person. I have a lot of patience and I am very calm in stressed situations. I am interested in learning new skills and I love to make other people happy.
Can you cook? (give an example of a breakfast, lunch, dinner and snack)Yes
BreakfastCereal, French toast, bacon and eggs, omelets
LunchSandwiches, pasta,
DinnerPasta, cooked meals
SnackFruit, crisp bread, provitas,
Is there any type of food you feel uncomfortable cooking? No
Please tell us a bit more about your family?.I have a mother and step-dad who are both in the education field, my step-dad is a teacher at a primary school in Geography, my younger sister just finished school and will be joining me in Pretoria to study this year.
