Period and reason for leavingJuly 2009 - June 2010, in New york, I came back to South Africa.
Number of children,age and gender of the children when you started?1 girl, aged 3 when I started.
What were your duties?Living in. Waking up 5h45am wake up Lila at around 6h30am to 7am, make and serve breakfast, get her ready for school, cleaning up and doing chores before school. Then I would drop her off at school. She was at school between 8am and 11h45. I would pick up from School, I then prepared lunch and would take her to extra mural activities, take to playdate, zoo, movies, gymnastics, etc. I was responsible for sorting out her playdates. Her mom would get home around 3 to 3h30pm. Her mom was a teacher. I would also do cooking for dinner, and sort out bath time. I enjoyed watching how I contributed to her development and really loved working with the family.

Period and reason for leavingJuly 2008 - July 2009. They were a German family living in New York. I completed 1 year as a live-in Au pair for them and then moved to another family. I still babysat for them from July 2009 -July 2010, My visa expired  and I had to leave.
Number of children,age and gender of the children when you started?I was working with a boy age 2 years old and a girl, 5 years old.
What were your duties?A bit more intense than with Julie's family. I would wake up at 5h30am, I would set the table , get the food ready for kids, I would get the older child ready for school. We would then wait for the bus to pick her up. The little boy had school for around 2 hours in the morning. I learnt how to cook . I was responsible for cooking dinner. I would take them to play dates, the zoo, movies, playing at the park etc. I cooked lunch for the kids and Dinner for the family.Cleaning in the evening after dinner and doing bath time, getting the kids ready for bed.

How many years of childcare experience do you currently have?4 years
How did you get involved in child care and why are you interested au pairing/ babysitting?Au pair America came and did a presentation on Au pairing. I looked into taking a gap year and found that it was the cheapest option. I didn't realise how good I was with children until I actually took this opportunity.
What is the age of the youngest child you have cared for?9 months old, my host families neighbours in New York had a 9 month old and 3 years old.
What do you do in your spare time? Do you have any hobbies or other jobs?Study,Dance, gym, read, music, movies, netball. When I was younger I was good at netball and acting. 
What do you like most about childcare and being part of a childs life?The humor, getting to see the development in the child´s abilities. Its not boring.
What kinds of activities do you enjoy doing with children?Outings, play dates, baking, cooking ,reading.
Explain what you would do in case of an emergency?Depends on what the emergency is, but get hold of the parents and and authority needed.
What is the most difficult situation you have encountered while caring for a child? How did you handle it?Child fell down stairs, I check for any signs of serious injury - with a smile to keep him calm- and checked he could move then asked if anything hurt informed the parents but everything was alright.
What is your approach to discipline?Consistency, not mentioning what is going wrong but more emphasis should be put on what is the right thing to do. Following through with what you say you´re going to do.

How would you handle:

A two year old having a tantrum?I would give him or her space for a moment and wait for the child to calm down then talk about it.
A 5 year old drawing on a wall?Show her where the cloth and soap is. and then demonstrate how cool soap is.
An 8 year old refusing to do homework?Explain how important and cool homework is and how the teacher will compliment them in front of their whole class
Which age groups are you comfortable working with?2-16 years. Although I´d like to only work half day as I would like to focus on my studies too.
