Secrets Unearthed
My name is Gina Croukamp and I created Secrets Unearthed Jewellery in 2009. I am a local contemporary Jewellery designer originally from Zimbabwe. I studied fine art at the University of Cape Town and jewellery design at Ruth Prowse.
Growing up in Zimbabwe and spending numerous holidays in the bush along the Zambezi river has influenced my love for natural found organic objects ranging from bits of wood, found tusk or bone and smooth agates in dried up river beds. Having spent the last six years in Cape Town, I have created a fusion between the bush and city girl, I have a more urban approach to some designs and love big "bling" earrings, perfect with Capetown summer dresses. Playing with mixed media; resin, wood and mother of pearl has taught me to be more versatile with my approach to designing and what I love most about jewellery is that I never stop learning, creating and stepping out of the box.
I have always had a fascination for jewellery, the name secrets unearthed has special meaning to me. A secret is something that is kept hidden from knowledge, a mystery. Unearthed is to bring out of the earth, to dig up and bring to public knowledge. My jewellery takes natural products dug up from the earth to be created into a hand crafted, original once off designs.
I supply shops in the V&A Waterfront, Cavendish, Constantia and Kalk Bay, but love working with customers to create a special personalized pieces of once off jewellery and I am always available to take orders.
